This is a record of hearings on April 6 and 7, 1977, before the Senate Subcommittee on Child and Human Development, to examine the program for the prevention, identification, and treatment of child abuse and neglect.
Abstract
The following witnesses appeared before the Subcommittee: (1) associate professor of sociology, University of Rhode Island; (2) professor of pediatrics and microbiology, University of Denver, and director of the National Center for the Prevention and Treatment of Child Abuse and Neglect; (3) research analyst, Yale University; (4) director, Family Development Study, Children's Hospital Medical Center, and assistant professor of pediatrics, Harvard Medical School; (5) administrator, New York City Child Welfare Services; (6) two child abusive parent representatives; (7) director, protective services, department of children and youth services, Hartford, CT; director, services to children and youth, Topeka, KS; and chief, pediatric surgery, University of Virginia and chairman, Governors commission on abuse and neglect, Charlottesville, VA, a panel; (8) Assistant Secretary for Human Development, Department of Health, Education, and Welfare; (9) staff attorney, juvenile rights project, American Civil Liberties Union; (10) executive director, National Committee for Prevention of Child Abuse; (11) representative from National Association of Social Workers and project director, child abuse and neglect training project. There are lists of federally funded demonstration projects in the prevention of child abuse. Appendix
