The following is a summary summary of statewide crime in Nebraska during 1994: (1) A total of 72,052 index offenses were reported or known to law enforcement; (2) 6,302 violent crimes were reported (Murder/Manslaughter 51, Forcible Rape 498. Robbery 1,221, Aggravated Assault 4,532) ; (3) 65,750 property crimes were reported (Burglary 10,876, Larceny-Theft 48,157, Motor Vehicle Theft 6,222, Arson 495); (4) Larceny-theft accounted for 67 percent of the total crime index; (5) l8,500 crime index offenses were reported cleared, a clearance rate of 25.7 percent; (6) 82,932 arrests were reported, an increase of 9 percent over 1993; (7) Persons under the age of 18 accounted for 21.4 percent of the total arrests; and (8) 190 assaults on law enforcement officers were reported, an 18 percent increase over 1993.
