This video consists of a series of comments by youth of various races concerning their attitudes about racial discrimination directed against themselves and their race as well as their attitudes toward other races.
Abstract
A young Hispanic girl expresses the feeling of living in a "white man's world" where she is demeaned and must struggle more than white citizens to find a place for herself. She acknowledges that she may be a racist toward whites. An African-American boy expresses the rage he felt when an employer openly stated that he would not hire him because he is black; the employer further called him a demeaning name, leading to a violent confrontation. A white boy expresses his feeling of being unfairly judged by African-Americans as a racist just because he is white. Another white youth complains about what he views as a double standard for racism among African-Americans, as they accuse whites of racist attitudes, while failing to acknowledge similar racist attitudes toward whites among blacks. Comments by Ku Klux Klan members expose their racist attitudes, and various youths express their hope that people will learn to relate to others without reference to skin color. One girl offers the hope that someday skin color will be no more significant in how you treat a person than eye color. A teacher's guide accompanies the video, with lesson plans and suggested activities provided.
