Directed to children of varying backgrounds and ages, this three-part video and printed instructional guide are intended for use in child abuse prevention programs for children, parents, teachers and other professionals, and organizations.
Abstract
Users are advised to present the program in segments over three days; viewing of each segment of the video should be followed by a discussion. Each segment depicts a child and a situation involving physical, emotional, or sexual abuse. The training is designed to help children begin to get in touch with and express their feelings by exploring emotions such as anger, fear, sadness, and happiness; to help children understand the difference between feelings and actions; to understand the meaning of child abuse and the kinds of feelings abused children experience; and the contrast between an ideal, healthy adult-child relationship and an inappropriate relationship. It also aims to encourage children to seek help as appropriate. The instructional guide presents a synopsis of each segment, a list of instructional objectives, topics to discuss before showing the video, and discussion questions and other activities to help the viewers meet the instructional objectives.
