California does not regulate the credentialing or certification of drug treatment and recovery counselors and does not accredit organizations that provide certification services. This is due to the complex nature of the State's alcohol and other drug (AOD) service delivery system. The AOD field, however, has a variety of private sector counselor credentialing and certifying organizations to meet the need for specialized counselors within California's complex system of AOD services, program settings, and environments. The directory identifies a contact person, an address, and a telephone number for each organization. In addition, information is provided on certification requirements and testing and certification fees.
