It is suggested that the judicial system of Spain needs to take into account the rights of inmates and to link what happens in the prisons to the democratic process of society.
Abstract
The general European attitudes toward prisons is outlined, and the particularly inhumane, corrupting prison system in Catalunya is detailed. Particular prison problems are described. To legislate, to judge, and to defend are quite different than to be actually imprisoned, suggesting that those working with inmates need to experience the latter more to better understand and remedy it. 19 references
