This report presents statistics and describes the law enforcement activities and results of the Arizona Department of Public Safety for fiscal year 1994-95.
Abstract
The fiscal year was one of organizational transition. To become more involved in problem-oriented and community policing, the Department implemented a two-division, four- bureau management concept that flattened the organizational command structure and made onsite decisionmaking more the norm than the exception. These changes greatly enhanced the Department's efforts to focus on gang activity, drug trafficking, and highway safety. The officers of the Department's Gang Intelligence Team Enforcement Model arrested more than 3,000 suspected gang members, most on drug-related charges. Narcotics officers seized nearly 30,000 pounds of marijuana. Overall, officers made 29,949 arrests, issued 281,723 citations, issued 233,675 warnings, investigated 17,527 traffic accidents, and recovered 1,899 stolen vehicles. The Department had an operating budget of more than $86 million. Figures, tables, and photographs
