This report presents statistical and narrative data on parole and parolees in New Jersey during fiscal year 1995.
Abstract
Changes during the year included the requirement that the State Parole Board approve all transfers of New Jersey parolees in and out of New Jersey, changes in the titles of parole officers, initiation of a basic course for parole officers, establishment of an intensive high-risk juvenile aftercare program, and enactment of sex offender registration legislation. Additional actions were the installation of communication radios in all vehicles, revision of the use of the Miranda warning and use immunity, and adoption of a rule pertaining to the Bureau of Parole's law enforcement responsibilities. As of June 30, 1995, various Bureau of Parole units reported responsibility for 46,901 cases, an increase of 16.25 percent over the previous year. The caseload includes 19,059 parolees residing in New Jersey still serving a time-portion of sentence, 1,363 New Jersey parolees residing out-of-state, and 27,842 state- sentenced cases past the maximum still owing court-ordered revenue obligations.
