The survey is based on a national probability sample of dwelling units in the United States. Trained interviewers conducted interviews; self-administered answer sheets and other procedures were used to assure participants that all responses to sensitive questions would be kept confidential and anonymous. The tables present statistics for all drug use and for the use of particular drugs, including marijuana, cocaine, crack, inhalants, hallucinogens, prescription drugs, stimulants, sedatives, tranquilizers, analgesics, alcohol, cigarettes, smokeless tobacco, PCP, heroin, anabolic steroids, and injected drugs.
