Those who argue that husbands are as abused as wives are misapplying the statistics on husband abuse to make it appear more frequent than it really is.
Abstract
Although many male advocates insist that women are as violent as men, Federal Bureau of Investigation statistics show a husband is 2.4 times more likely to kill his wife than she is to kill him. In 1992, 1,432 women were killed by their male partners, while 623 men were killed by their female partners. Male advocates, however, are on firmer ground when they point to a 1985 study funded by the National Institute of Mental Health that found women to be as physically abusive as men. The role of the O.J. Simpson case in heightening media focus on domestic violence is discussed.
