This report presents a cross-site summary of all 19 sites of the Federal Weed and Seed drug law enforcement initiative.
Abstract
This Federal initiative was designed to mobilize a large and varied array of resources in an effort to control violent crime and drug trafficking, and to improve the quality of life in high-risk neighborhoods. The national evaluation of the Weed and Seed program is an ongoing effort to document program activities in 19 demonstration sites through the planning, development, and implementation stages of Weed and Seed strategies. The Weed and Seed program involves a two-pronged strategy of eliminating violent criminals from an area, and filling the gap with a broad array of social services. This report discusses program characteristics, weeding activities, community policing, and seeding activities in each of the 19 sites, and presents recommendations for future efforts. 29 references and 1 appendix
