This collection publishes statistics on criminal court transactions in the former West Germany for 1991
Abstract
Corresponding figures for the former East Germany are not yet available. A major section is devoted to each of the following court levels: municipal courts, state courts, higher state courts, and the German Supreme Court. Each section includes similar statistics. First, the court case flow from 1989 to 1992 in the former West Germany and each of the 11 West German states is analyzed (i.e., open cases at the beginning of the year, new cases, closed cases). The following set of statistics focuses on closed cases, including initiation procedure, number of alleged offenders, type of sentence imposed, and duration of the trial. Special charts present information on appealed cases including the case flow in 1992, initiator of the appeal, number of alleged offenders, type of sentence, and duration of trial. Because of changes in compiling methods, no comparable court data are available prior to 1989.
