This manual presents an elementary school curriculum and activities to prevent violence and develop skills in problemsolving, anger management, dealing with peer pressure, accepting differences and diversity, viewing television critically, and maintaining personal safety.
Abstract
The manual is directed to teachers and counselors serving students from kindergarten through grade five. The seven chapters use a sequential approach that builds on previously developed skills. Each activity includes its own objective, the materials needed, and vocabulary words. The activities are grouped into two developmental groups, kindergarten through grade two and grades three through five, and emphasize student participation, discussion, and exploration. An introduction explains the curriculum's goals, the teaching strategies; it emphasizes that discussions are an essential part of the program.
