The six tools are brainstorming, a technique to generate new ideas about a thought or problem; questioning, a strategy to acquire, clarify, and synthesize information; active listening, a process of hearing what is being said and understanding the message being sent; triggers, verbal and nonverbal actions that stimulate confrontation with another person; ATFRC, a model used to help students think through an incident or event; and CoRT, a training program for the direct teaching of thinking with emphasis on perception. Lessons have been written for use in the following content areas: social studies; science; math; reading/language arts/English; the arts; guidance and counseling; physical education; and foreign language. Only some of these lessons are in this manual, which is to be expanded in the future. Each of the lessons contains objectives, materials, and suggested procedures for teaching the lesson, along with background information on each tool. A list of 24 resources
