The participants were students at Rich East High School in Park Forest, Ill. One hundred two students were exposed to mediation during the 1990-91 school year through the conduct of 50 mediations; most disputes involved 2 students. Eighty-five students who were still in the school at the end of the year received survey instruments that asked 10 questions about mediation. Seventy-eight students completed the questionnaires. Results revealed that students are well satisfied with the mediation program and its potential for dispute resolution. In addition, 83 percent regarded themselves as potential mediators themselves. Findings indicated that the target population for the use of mediation services might be younger students, particularly females. Tables and 4 references
