This collection publishes statistics on German court transactions for both the 11 states of the former West Germany and the six states of the former East Germany for 1992.
Abstract
For both parts of Germany the statistics cover the following categories: pending cases at the beginning of 1992, new cases, closed cases, pending cases at the end of 1992, and percentage of pending cases as compared to closed cases. Although the statistics of West and East Germany are not entirely comparable because of differences in record keeping, they are similar enough to give a fair representation of reality. The first section surveys the number of higher and lower civil courts in each state. The following section analyzes the court case flow for civil courts and family courts. A detailed section is devoted to criminal courts and covers cases at both first instance and appealed cases. For the former East Germany, this section also includes quashing procedures and rehabilitation procedures which have no equivalent in West German courts. The final sections focus on the case flow of financial courts, administrative courts, labor courts, and social courts.
