Nevada's 1992 drug strategy identified a multidisciplinary approach involving enforcement, education, prevention, and treatment to influence all segments of society involved in drug trafficking and drug use. The strategy had the following purpose areas: demand reduction education programs; multijurisdictional task force programs; community and neighborhood programs; improved operational effectiveness of law enforcement and the court process; programs to meet the treatment needs of both adult and juvenile drug-dependent and alcohol-dependent offenders; enhanced drug control technology; and improved criminal justice and juvenile justice system responses to domestic and family violence. During 1992, 40 grants were funded, for a total amount of $2,794,000. These grants were funded for such projects as Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE), multijurisdictional task forces, gang prevention, drug treatment, and drug prevention.
