Abstract
Tennessee received $8,735,986 for fiscal year 1994, and this allocation was broken down as follows: 0.77 percent for educational programs, 52.25 percent for criminal justice and law enforcement, 1.1 percent for new and innovative programs, 20.11 percent for information management and technological improvements, and 25.77 percent for rehabilitation and treatment programs. More than 5,120 students in 157 schools completed Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE). Multijurisdictional task forces made 4,293 felony cocaine drug arrests, and a marijuana eradication task force stroyed 511,508 sensimmilla plants. The Chattanooga Police Department reported a 55 percent reduction in violent crimes in two targeted weed and seed areas, the Knoxville Police Department made 155 undercover drug buys, and the Detecting Drugged Drivers Program was established in Memphis. Through asset forfeiture, $2,801,617 in currency, real property, personal property, and vehicles were seized from illegal drug operations. Funds were also utilized for court delay reduction, inmate training, juvenile and adult offender treatment, upgraded fingerprinting systems, and the purchase of hardware and software for use in police patrol vehicles. Program purpose areas are summarized, with goals, objectives, activities, and accomplishments identified. Tables and figures
