This manual provides background information about the operations of the St. Mary's County (Md.) Sheriff's Office and the policies and procedures to be followed by the volunteers who perform a variety of clerical and administrative duties for the Office.
Abstract
As official representatives of the Sheriff, volunteers are subject to all applicable agency rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. Division commanders also ensure that volunteers receive the specialized training and guidance necessary to perform their assigned duties. The policy statement for the volunteer program explains the volunteer application and selection procedures, the use of volunteer time sheets, performance evaluations of volunteers, recordkeeping, rules of conduct, procedures for making followup telephone calls to crime victims. Additional policy and procedure statements explain the mission, goals, and objectives of the Sheriff Department, the limits of its authority, organizational relationships, the roles and responsibilities of specific personnel, the chain of command, the forms used, forms control, the operation of police vehicles, and administrative regulations.
