This document presents and describes sample materials for an interagency concept called a Triad, in which a sheriff, one or more chiefs of police, and older or retired leadership in a community collaborate to reduce crimes against elderly persons and improve the delivery of law enforcement services to older citizens.
Abstract
Triads exist on the local, State, and national levels. The American Association of Retired Persons, the International Association of Chiefs of Police, and the National Sheriffs' Association have signed joint resolutions to encourage a cooperative, coordinated, multidisciplinary approach to crime-related problems of older persons. Triad activities focus on both crime prevention and services to victims and witnesses. A Triad may also sponsor training for police personnel. Triad activities typically cost little or nothing. Ideally, each Triad receives guidance from an advisory group of older persons and persons providing services to the aging.
