In response to the widespread prevalence of crime in communities, the Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM) has introduced a program referred to as the IREM SMART (Safety Management Alliance of Residents and Tenants) Partners Program.
Abstract
The program is a multifaceted, nationwide, and organized effort by the IREM to create a safer environment for residents and tenants in apartments, condominiums, and retail and office buildings by reducing the risk of criminal activity. The program is intended to provide real estate managers and others with the necessary tools to motivate and educate residents and tenants to implement safety awareness programs. The core component of the program is a 1-day seminar on how to implement an IREM SMART Partners Program. Information and materials for inclusion in this seminar are provided that focus on the need for strong communities, physical crime prevention, the enhancement of residential properties, resident involvement in crime prevention, and commercial properties. The IREM SMART Partners Watch Program is described, and a list of resources is included. 29 exhibits
