This report presents an overview of the activities of the Kentucky Department of Corrections during fiscal year 1994 and describes the agency's structure, programs, and plans for fiscal year 1995.
Abstract
Highlights of accomplishments during fiscal year 1994 included a 13 percent reduction in the cost of inmate medical services, the establishment of a $2 copayment for each medical office visit, and the continuation of Kentucky's shock incarceration program for nonviolent offenders ages 17-29. Other accomplishments included the expansion of the inmate drug treatment program from 75 beds to 146 beds, the expansion of psychiatric services for mentally ill inmates, the development of a pilot waste recycling policies in eight jurisdictions, and the rebidding and consolidation of the inmate telephone contract system. The 1995 strategic plans has goals in six areas: population management, human resource management, security and facility management, correctional leadership and effective public administration, inmate programs and services, and the building of partnerships with community and public agencies.
