Participants in the program experience first-hand the principles, practices, and responsibilities of democratic self-government. They then take responsibility for identifying and solving problems within their community. The training uses an experiential methodology. The three program components include the examination of issues, organizational experiences, and leadership development. Training consists of internships, interviews, seminars, retreats, projects, and logic study. Skills developed include critical thinking, project management, relationships, and attitudes and ethics. Through interviews with crucial public and private sector decisionmakers, participants examine the interests represented by business, labor, community organizations, government institutions, and the media. Through seminar activities, trainers equip participants with the tools for effective inquiry, analysis, problemsolving, group management, and organization.
