Intended for use by scholars in the area of forensic psychology, this volume reviews the psychological and legal literature pertaining to specific areas of forensic practice and discusses the empirical literature on forensic applications of the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory 2 (MMPI-2).
Abstract
The first chapter provides background information on forensic uses of the MMPI-2 and reviews historical and scientific foundations of forensic applications of the test. The second chapter describes the legal community's perspective on forensic psychological assessment in general and the use of objective tests such as the MMPI-2 in particular. The third chapter overviews psychometric issues that should be considered when conducting forensic psychological evaluations, while the fourth chapter reviews the empirical literature on MMPI-2 distortion. The next two chapters consider issues related to the use of the MMPI-2 in criminal justice settings, and the next four chapters explore applications of the MMPI-2 in civil court proceedings. The final chapter highlights areas requiring further research and training and identifies limits of scientifically grounded uses of the MMPI-2 in forensic psychological evaluations.
