Abstract
The goal is to motivate educators, law enforcement policymakers, students, parents, and community residents to vigorously advocate school safety, which includes keeping campuses free of crime and violence, improving discipline, and increasing student attendance. The 12 primary strategies include convincing the school board, superintendent, and principals that quality education requires safe, disciplined, and peaceful schools; to develop a school safety clearinghouse for current literature and data on school safety issues; and to establish a districtwide mandatory incident reporting system. Additional primary strategies include preparing a school safety public information brochure, developing safety policies, and developing and regularly updating a school safety fact sheet for the district. In addition to these and other primary strategies, further strategies are provided for working with school board members, school employees, students, parents, community residents, service groups, business leaders, law enforcement, and the media.
