The Police Commissioner has established a Traffic Control Division, which will be responsible for expediting the flow of traffic and reducing pedestrian and vehicle accidents. While the Department of Transportation is the primary city agency responsible for transportation issues, the Police Department's Traffic Control Division is responsible for enforcement initiatives. It will focus its efforts on the morning and evening rush hours and in midtown during the middle of the day. The Traffic Division will also work to improve the flow of traffic in the central business districts of the Bronx, Brooklyn, and Queens and coordinate the efforts of all patrol precincts and other Police Department units to address traffic problems.
