Abstract
For each topic, the text presents the main concepts and research findings, the methods of research involved, and the state-of-the-art in the field. Individual chapters focus on the development of criminology in Great Britain; recent paradigms; and crime statistics, patterns, and trends. Additional chapters focus on violent crime, white-collar crime, drug law offenses, organized crime, the political economy of crime, criminal careers, and the geographical distribution of crime. Further chapters discuss crime prevention, policing and the police, investigative procedures, arrest and apprehension, trial procedures, sentencing, probation and community sanctions, imprisonment, and the juvenile justice system from 1945 to 1992. Other chapters examine gender and crime, relationships between race and crime and the criminal justice system, mentally ill offenders, youthful offenders, and victim issues.
