Seven evaluation reports developed under Byrne grants address programs that pertain to drug treatment, community policing, youth violence, domestic violence, intensive juvenile probation, and drug law enforcement.
Abstract
One report describes the process evaluation of the 4-month start-up period and the first 11 months of operation for the Amity RighTurn Substance Abuse Program at the R.J. Donovan Correctional Facility in San Diego, Calif. An associated report provides data on the program use of the Amity RighTurn Substance Abuse Treatment Program. A third report presents the evaluation of Mississippi's multijurisdictional drug task forces; it was designed to determine the extent to which the units have been accomplishing their goals and meeting the expectations of local residents as well as task force officers and directors. Another report presents the results of an evaluation of the work of the Maui County (Hawaii) Domestic and Family Violence Coalition, which focuses on joint efforts by the police and prosecutors to improve effectiveness in the processing of domestic-assault cases. An interim report presents information and data on an evaluation of Washington State's Youth Violence Prevention and Intervention Program (YVPIP), which is intended to counter the rising problem of violence by youth through support for local communities in the identification of the primary risk factors for youth violence and the design of services to counter these risk factors or strengthen protective factors. Another report presents the results of evaluations of community-oriented policing (problem-oriented policing) in eight Missouri communities. The seventh evaluation used an experimental research design that involved 45 randomly selected control-group youth and 88 experimental-group youth to test the effectiveness of the Utah Juvenile Court's intensive juvenile probation program.
