This is an evaluation of Program Rebound Plus, an effort by the city of Yakima, Washington, to create safe, clean, drug-free neighborhoods.
Abstract
The program goals were to: (1) sustain neighborhoods through an intensive effort to rid them of physical structures and other environmental conditions conducive to drug trafficking; (2) increase awareness and security of residents through presence of project staff and increased community involvement in project-sponsored activities; (3) increase awareness of property and business owners of the signs, dangers, and solutions to drug activities; and (4) encourage participation of neighborhood youth in different cleanup activities within the targeted areas. One of the project's noteworthy activities was the formation of a volunteer youth group who helped with graffiti removal and neighborhood cleanup. A majority of residents surveyed considered Project Rebound Plus either very active or moderately active in their neighborhoods. Footnotes, references, figures, tables, appendixes
