Amendments to Title I of the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968 were enacted in 1976 as Public Law 94-503, the Crime Control Act of 1976.
Abstract
The amendments are designed to help State and local governments strengthen and improve law enforcement and criminal justice. Specific purposes of the amendments are to help State and local governments develop and adopt comprehensive plans; to authorize grants to State and local governments; and to encourage research and development directed toward the improvement of law enforcement and criminal justice and the development of new methods for preventing and reducing crime and for detecting, apprehending, and rehabilitating criminals. The amendments are concerned with judicial participation in law enforcement planning, law enforcement grants, antitrust law enforcement, Indian tribes, civil rights, juvenile justice, and drug law enforcement. The amendments also contain various administrative provisions.
