The articles in this issue of the Albany Law Review were prepared in connection with a symposium on critical issues in the matter of violence against women by intimate partners.
Abstract
These articles combine ideology and methodology to create new theories and paradigms that address in a proactive manner the issue of violence against women by intimate partners. The authors are scholars and activists, and new theories are the consequence of work dedicated to the eradication of intrafamilial violence. Among the issues addressed are: (1) shifting the emphasis from battered woman to coercive control by the batterer; (2) battered women, family lawyers, and the need for an identification protocol; (3) the connection between violence against mothers and violence against children; (4) domestic violence as a human rights issue; (5) the role of religious institutions; (6) domestic violence and health care; (7) assessment and treatment of partner abuse; and (8) the role of the media.
