One objective of the program is to help students understand what constitutes dating and healthy relationships. It also facilitates students' defining and understanding the various types of maltreatment and guides them in how to seek available community and government resources when dating violence occurs. Other topics discussed in the workbook and the interactive computer instruction are Canadian laws related to dating violence, as well as consent, protection, and reporting procedures. Guidelines for the use of the computer program include the hardware needed for Macintosh computers and for IBM compatible computers. The computer program and the workbook include questions designed to help students identify the nature of abuse in a dating relationship and be aware of some warning signs of the potential for an abusive and controlling relationship. Other topics examined in the program are the prevalence and patterns of physical violence in a dating relationship, how a person acts out anger, ways to prevent date rape, and the criminal nature of dating violence. Also included are a "Dating Violence Legal Quiz," which helps students define when dating violence breaks Canadian law; 20 conversation starters for healthier relationships; how to rate a dating relationship; and communicating with parents about a dating relationship.
