Recognizing that the number of American children living below the poverty line reached 15 million in 1994, this volume compiles figures on indicators of child well-being.
Abstract
The 10 indicators are taken from government sources and reflect the best data available for each indicator: percent low birth weight babies, infant mortality rate, child death rate (1- 14 years), teenage violent death rate (15-19 years), teenage birth rate (15-17 years), juvenile violent crime arrest rate (10- 17 years), percent of teenage high school dropouts (16-19 years), percent of teenagers not attending school and not working (16-19 years), percent of children in poverty, and percent of families with children headed by a single parent. National and State profiles are presented that contain data on the 10 indicators. Supplemental information on the 10 indicators is appended. Endnotes, tables, and figures
