Decade statistics (each year for 1985-94) cover Index Crime offenses, arrests, and trends. One table shows the number of law enforcement officers killed and assaulted in 1994, together with the number assaulted by type of weapon. Data on murder address prevalence; victim's age, sex, and race; weapon used; circumstances; and relationship of victim to offender. Number of arrests for the offense is also shown. Data for other offenses encompass the number of offenses reported, the State crime rate for the offense, and the number of persons arrested for the offense. The statistics show that total crime in 1994 decreased by 0.5 percent from the previous year. Violent crimes of murder, rape, aggravated assault, and robbery decreased by 4.0 percent from 1993. Total property crimes (burglary, larceny, and motor vehicle theft) also showed a decrease from 1993 (1.2 percent). The only index crime that showed an increase was motor vehicle theft (up 6.3 percent from 1993). Total arrests increased 2.1 percent in 1994. Juveniles (age 16 and under) accounted for 11 percent of all those arrested. Extensive tables
