This annotated bibliography presents documents focusing on prevention, intervention, and treatment issues in relation to the impacts of violence on the mental health of children who have been victims, witnesses, or perpetrators of the violence.
Abstract
The documents are all contained in the library of the National Clearinghouse on Child Abuse and Neglect Information and were selected from thousands of materials available in the database. The bibliography is presented in three sections: children as victims of violence, children as witnesses of violence, and child and adolescent perpetrators of violence. Each citation is listed once in the bibliography, primarily under its main subject heading. The documents were published between 1990 and 1995. Each citation includes the author, title, source, and other bibliographic information. Topics include an in-home program for preventing child abuse and neglect, the treatment and prevention of child sexual abuse, collaboration with schools, guidelines for effective practice in child protection, interventions for children of battered women, brief interventions with youthful perpetrators of child sexual abuse, and the assessment of the recidivism risk of juvenile sex offenders.
