The research also attempts to determine levels of a community's fear of crime and their opinion of police involved in community policing strategies. The paper is presented in nine sections: Historical Perspective; Literature Review; Recent Research; Operational Terms; Crime Measurements; Research Methodology; Statistical Findings; Tenant Survey Findings; and Policy Implications. The tenant survey attempted to determine respondent's opinions and experiences regarding: their fear of crime in their neighborhood; their perception of drug crimes in their neighborhood; whether they had been the victim of crime in the year previous to the survey; the police with whom they may have had contact; and what problems other than crime they believe exist in their neighborhood. The study indicates that concentrated efforts on police-community involvement are needed for the concepts of community policing to be effective. Tables, references, appendixes
