This report presents the views of 11 member states of the United Nations Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice regarding the organizational and substantive preparations for the 10th congress on the prevention of crime and the treatment of offenders.
Abstract
Following an overview of the various members states' suggestions for various organizational aspects of the 10th congress, venue suggestions of the states are presented. Also provided is a summary of the views of the countries on possible subjects for the 10th congress. The subjects are transnational organized crime, crime prevention and the implementation of United Nations standards and norms, improvements in the administration of justice and the rule of law, violent crime, and migration and crime. Other topics suggested are the smuggling of human organs, the smuggling of nuclear substances, and public corruption. Some topics suggested for the demonstration workshops are the linkages between public corruption and organized crime, as well as the treatment of offenders. The report recommends that the Commission begin discussing organizational and substantive preparations for the Congress while awaiting views from additional member states. Given the limited number of member states replying to the solicitation for suggestions, the countries that have not replied should be contacted for their recommendations.
