Abstract
Each inmate will have served his/her sentence in one of the four correctional programs, namely, prisons, drug addiction treatment centers, training centers, or a detention center. In 1995 there were 17,631 admissions, out of which 14,322 were sentenced to prisons, 2,533 to drug addiction treatment centers, 443 to training centers, and 333 to detention centers. This report is divided into four sections. Section One provides an overall view of the socioeconomic and criminal characteristics of the sentenced persons. Section Two summarizes key statistics of the sentenced persons by type of correctional program. Section Three contains detailed statistics on drug dependent persons, and Section Four presents comparative statistics for 1994 and 1995 on selected characteristics. Three charts show admissions by sex, age, major offense group, correctional program, and drug dependents over a longer period, from 1981 to 1995. 3 figures and 38 tables
