Abstract
All data for this report came from Delaware's State Bureau of Identification. Delaware has no specific domestic violence statutes; however, when charges are made against individuals, a victim to offender relationship is reported whenever identifiable. This report uses the victim to offender data to determine what cases are domestic. "General domestic violence" is defined as the sum of Delaware's homicides, forcible rapes, other sexual assaults, aggravated assaults, and simple assaults. There were 26,571 victim to offender relationships for these crimes in 1994, 8,390 of which can be attributed to domestic violence. The number of domestic violence cases has been increasing every year, up 2.4 percent since 1993, and up 30.9 percent since 1990. The following percentages represent the portion of each selected crime type identified as domestic in 1994: 26 percent of homicides, 32.2 percent of forcible rapes, 11.4 percent of other sexual assaults, 22.4 percent of aggravated assaults, and 34.3 percent of simple assaults. Simple assaults were the most common type of domestic violence, both in terms of raw numbers and percentage attributable to domestic violence. Between May 20, 1992, and June 30, 1994, a total of 242 individuals were charged with stalking. Data on stalking address offender and victim demographics, arrests, the most serious offenses of those charged with stalking, and the number of convictions. Extensive figures, a glossary, and appended Delaware stalking law
