Abstract
Although more detailed information is available in a variety of publications of the Canadian Centre for Justice Statistics (CCJS), this report brings together data from all the CCJS's surveys and data from two Statistics Canada victimization surveys. Descriptions are provided for the various surveys whose statistics are included in this report. They include the Uniform Crime Reporting Survey, the Revised Uniform Crime Reporting Survey, Homicide Survey, Police Administration Survey, Adult Criminal Court Survey, Youth Court Survey, Adult Corrections Survey, Corrections Key Indicator Report for Adult and Young Offenders, the Violence Against Women Survey, the General Social Survey, and the International Crime Survey. To provide national and international context, selected Canadian socio-demographic statistics are included, as well as international crime statistics. Graphics are presented for the following areas: Canadian socio-demographic characteristics; Canadian police- reported crime statistics (the incident, the accused, the victim); police administration statistics; adult and youth court activity; the correctional population; costs of the criminal justice system; violence against women; Canadian's experience with crime and their perceptions and fears of crime; and international crime statistics. Appended historical list of CCJS publications, a historical list of Juristats, a glossary of terms, and a subject index
