This monograph discusses the nature, scope, and consequences of alcohol and other drug use on American campuses.
Abstract
The report presents data from 67,975 students. It includes annual prevalence data for all drugs of significant concern, including tobacco, alcohol, marijuana, hallucinogens, amphetamines, sedatives, cocaine, opiates, inhalants, designer drugs, steroids, and others. Separate chapters are included for two-year and four-year institutions, and many of the variables are analyzed by gender. The report also includes students' reported consequences of involvement with alcohol and other drugs. Findings are reported regarding: (1) the social milieu of the college campus, including students' perceptions of other students' drug and alcohol use; (2) perceptions of the campus climate with respect to drug and alcohol policies; (3) students' preferences for the availability of alcohol and other drugs; (4) family histories of substance abuse; (5) substance use by residence location; and (6) regional differences.
