This film examines on crime prevention programs and crime specific countermeasures around the country and presents suggestions for crime prevention.
Abstract
One section describes how a hospital in New Orleans prevents thefts from patients by taking an inventory of possessions when the patient comes to the emergency room, seals the envelope and places it in a double-key locker. Another section focuses on mail theft and notes how thieves wash checks and alter amounts. Another segment explains car insurance fraud involving deliberate chain-reaction accidents and the exaggeration of injuries and damages. Other segments focus on efforts in Florida to address domestic assault with specially trained volunteers, police cooperation, and the donation of time by plastic surgeons to repair disfigured faces. A Cleveland program to replace graffiti with art and a program involving youth in the arts are also portrayed.
