Prostitution is an integral part of every society, including Hungarian society, and the demand for sexual services is present in all stages of social development.
Abstract
The social position of prostitution is sometimes legitimate, but prostitution is illegal or only tolerated in other situations. Historical experience shows that prohibition is not effective against prostitution. The author analyzes possible methods for handling prostitution in Hungary against a historical and international background. Although Hungary decriminalized single-person prostitution in a 1993 law, this approach generated numerous problems. Methods for resolving these problems are discussed. 3 footnotes
