This booklet describes Iowa's Comprehensive Career Criminal and Drug Prosecution Support Program and provides the guidelines and materials for applying for grants under the program.
Abstract
The program addresses the drug problem in Iowa by directly funding drug prosecutors, providing support and technical assistance, teaching groups of prosecutors and investigators in regional training programs, assessing prosecutor automation needs, and providing computer software and support to enhance the ability of drug and career criminal prosecutors to prosecute and compile case-tracking data. The first goal of the program is to improve public safety and to disrupt patterns of serious criminal activity, particularly drug offenses, through additional prosecution resources and effective case management. The second goal is to provide prosecution support statewide in the areas of career criminal and drug offense prosecutions and to generate useful data in the areas of workload distribution, case handling, management analysis, and prosecution policies. The program can fund up to 12 assistant county attorneys in drug prosecutor positions across the State. County attorneys or groups of county attorneys who participate in multijurisdictional task forces may apply for funding for a specialized career criminal and drug enforcement prosecutor. This booklet provides guidelines for the application process as well as the materials and mandates required.
