The TA Project is a statewide joint venture of the Ohio Office of Criminal Justice Services and the Ohio Peace Officer Training Council. The TA Project is designed to provide an empirical basis for decisions concerning Ohio's peace officer training curriculum and to protect Ohio's law enforcement community against liability. To assess the distribution of law enforcement personnel in Ohio, data were obtained between April and July, 1995. Responses were received from sheriff offices, municipal police departments, campus police departments, and park police. Study results indicated that sheriff offices employed 4,973 sworn peace officers, 4,492 (90 percent) of whom worked full-time. The 778 municipal police departments employed 18,563 sworn peace officers, 15,487 (83 percent) of whom were full-time employees. Twelve campus police departments employed 397 sworn peace officers, with 332 (84 percent) working full-time. The 67 State parks employed 284 sworn peace officers, of whom 215 (76 percent) were full-time employees. The study report includes telephone lists of police agencies.
