This guide is designed to assist Boys and Girls Clubs in organizing and planning to obtain funding to continue, refine, or expand the secondary delinquency prevention/intervention services that are needed to better respond to community needs.
Abstract
One of the unique features of the Targeted Outreach Project has been the formation of Clusters of Clubs within a given geographical area. One section of the guide describes the merits of a collaborative venture and provides tested guidelines for organizing and operating the collaboration. Another section contains sample proposals that can be adapted by any club for submission to the United Way, foundations, and government agencies. Proposal writing is discussed in one section. It includes narratives about how to write each section of a proposal for funding a delinquency prevention program. It contains examples of how each proposal section might appear, suggestions for developing the proposal, and ideas about how to approach funding sources. A fourth section provides a presentation that clubs may use or adapt when making a presentation to the United Way or foundation. The presentation is preceded by an instruction page that contains suggestions for adapting and delivering the presentation. A section on "Foundation Search" presents examples of delinquency intervention programs that were recently funded by foundations, so as to indicate the variety and types of projects being funded. It also provides a list of the names, addresses, and telephone numbers of foundations that fund youth service agencies and delinquency prevention projects. Other sections of the guide contain a list of all the State Juvenile Justice Advisory Councils and a list of additional resources available from Boys Clubs of America's Targeted Outreach Project, including publications, proposals, and presentations.
