This film presents a dramatization of the use of inhalants by three Texas youths, with emphasis on its harmful impacts on their attitudes, their behavior, their friends, and their families.
Abstract
High school student Scott is introduced to inhalants while attending a party at the home of a friend. His friend is upset when she sees him using drugs. Their friend Paul is also concerned about his older brother Tony, who also sniffs inhalants. Their parents worry about Tony's lack of appetite and his inability to obtain a job and are unaware of his drug use. A classroom speaker notes that about 600 products are abusable if sniffed and that the brain cells they destroy do not grow back. Scott's inhalant use progresses, his grades drop, he is no longer friendly to his former friends, and his family is concerned. Later Paul tries inhalants and dies of cardiac arrest. A police officer explains the dangers of inhalants to Scott's family, who confront Scott through an intervention. Scott and Tony ultimately receive successful treatment.
