MADD recommends each State adopt laws that provide driver's license revocation for underage persons convicted of purchasing, possessing, or consuming alcoholic beverages. MADD also supports the adoption of graduated licensing as a way of requiring young people to gain driving experience under certain restrictions and to maintain a clean driving record before full driving privileges are granted. In order to limit the involvement of young people in alcohol-related accidents, MADD supports strict enforcement of laws that prohibit adults from selling or providing alcohol to minors. Further, MADD advocates alcohol-free zones and encourages sponsors of events with underage participants to ensure alcoholic beverages are not served. Objectives of MADD's Commission on Youth are to review the current status of programs and policies for preventing impaired driving by young people, to identify new priorities, and to articulate a 5-year plan for MADD's future work in this area. The findings of a survey of youth issues are presented, and commission recommendations targeting young people are offered. Various youth initiatives to control underage drinking and impaired driving are described. 2 figures and 1 table
