The analysis focuses on treatment modalities, treatment settings, and treatment approaches. Most programs offer a combination of approaches depending on the level of staff expertise, phase of treatment, and individual philosophy of the treatment setting. Using a variety of approaches is desirable for treating drug abuse and dependence in an individual. Approaches that hold some validity for addicted individuals include group therapy, family therapy, marital therapy, psychopharmacotherapy, and individual therapy. Treatment settings include inpatient programs, outpatient programs, partial hospital programs, and residential programs. A crucial factor in successful treatment is sthe effort to assist the client in deciding and committing to a preferred treatment of choice. Table and 14 references
