The chapters are presented in three general sections. Part 1, "Thinking About Canadian Youth," provides both theoretical and methodological approaches to studying youth, addresses the influence of the media in the shaping of youth ideals and behaviors, and examines the policies of "doing good" or "doing justice" with youth who violate Canadian laws covered under the Young Offenders Act. Part 2, "Talking About Canadian Youth," creates a forum for scholars to develop contentions about youth based on current research in such topic areas as vandalism, unemployment, and the subcultural attraction of funk music. Also in this section are two articles that address the urban Aboriginal youth experience in British Columbia and the rise of Canadian female juvenile offenders. Part 3, "Hearing the Voices of Canadian Youth," presents six examples of empirical research conducted by Canadian scholars on Canadian youth. Topics addressed in this section are youth work camps as correctional facilities, secondary school experiences, black youth-police relations, sports and violence, subcultures and gang violence, and "cyberskating" on the Internet.
